三菱LANCER EVOLUTION是三菱汽车的旗舰跑车, 最初设计是建立在LANCER轿车的基础上. 三菱公司为了参加世界拉力冠军赛和SCCA专业拉力冠军赛的赛事, 所以EVO系列在第5代之前都需要赛方的审核. 为了迎合赛方的要求, EVO就建立了LANCER系列的车型之上, 但是更加强劲, 而EVO和LANCER之间除了车型相似外基本就没有共同点了. 从93年至今已有9个系列诞生. 第6到9代就不再需要满足WRC的参赛要求. Lancer Evolution的名字红遍全球，市面发售的街道版Evolution理所应当地成为了诸多追求高性能车迷们的爱物。Lancer Evolution的名字红遍全球，市面发售的街道版Evolution理所应当地成为了诸多追求高性能车迷们的爱物。EVO系列最初只是针对日本本土市场, 但到了98年, 少数5代和也6代通过“灰色进口渠道”进入英国和其他欧洲国家. 之到2003年, 因为美国对进口车的需要增加, 使得三菱决定正式出口第8代EVO到美国. 美国最新的2005EVO拥有全驱涡轮增压四缸276马力的引擎. 2006年的车辆因为对涡轮赠压的散热进行了调整则拥有286马力. MIVEC技术也加入了2006年的车辆中. 有趣的一点是, 日本本土的EVO由于三菱和其他车厂之间达成的君子协定在对外宣传时不会公布超过280马力, 但是在出口到英国的EVO的官方公布的输出却高到405马力。
